Boko Haram WAS a true terror –

Boko Haram at its peak declared a Boko Haram state in North-east Nigeria, bombed UN and Police Headquarters in Nigeria, abducted Chibok girls and thousands of children and women, following their running over several major administrative districts that included major towns and villages in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa. The final chapter of Boko Haram started on with the capture of the last known stronghold of the group in Sambisa forest. Boko Haram WAS a true terror – killed and maimed tens of thousands of Nigerians(some of which were recorded), quickly overtaking ISIS with exploits that ISIS envied. Saturday 24th of December, 2016 The Final Fall No fewer than 4,200 officers of the Nigerian Army, Air Force and other special forces took part in the operation to uproot the Boko Haram terrorists from their Sambisa Forest, a 60,000square-kilometre forest equivalent to the combined size of several states and more than 15 times larger than Lagos state alone. Language and Culture Of Ekiti People

Language & Culture The Ekiti is a sub-group of the Yoruba , and indeed their ancestors migrated from Ile-Ife, the spiritual home of all Yoruba . The local dialect is spoken with slight variations in the different communities, but this does not prevent Ekiti indigenes from understanding each other. Christianity, Islam and traditional religions are all practiced. The people of Ekiti are culturally homogenous and speak a special dialect of Yoruba language known as Ekiti. The dialect however varies across locations, e.g. Otun people (in Moba land) speak a dialect close to that of the Igbominas in Kwara and Osun States; the Oke-Ako, Irele and Omu-Oke people speak a dialect similar to that spoken by the Ijumus in Kogi State. The people of Efon Alaaye also speak a similar dialect to that of the Ijesas of Osun State. Although slight (and in very few locations, somewhat wide) variations exist in the local dialects, the Ekiti people understand each other and communicate pretty well. Poli...

History Of Banking

Wealth compressed into the convenient form of gold brings one disadvantage. Unless well hidden or protected, it is easily stolen. In early civilizations a temple is considered the safest refuge; it is a solid building, constantly attended, with a sacred character which itself may deter thieves. In Egypt and Mesopotamia gold is deposited in temples for safe-keeping. But it lies idle there, while others in the trading community or in government have desperate need of it. In Babylon at the time of Hammurabi, in the 18th century BC, there are records of loans made by the priests of the temple. The concept of banking has arrived. Banking activities in Greece are more varied and sophisticated than in any previous society. Private entrepreneurs, as well as temples and public bodies, now undertake financial transactions. They take deposits, make loans, change money from one currency to another and test coins for weight and purity. They even engage in book transactions. Moneylenders can be ...

OTUN EKITI

Otun Ekiti is the Headquarter of Moba Local Government Area in Ekiti State. It is located to the North of Ekiti State. It is a nodal town which shares boundary with Kwara State to the North and Osun State to the West. History Of Otun Ekiti Tradition has it that the Oore emerged from the Okun Moba (Moba Sea) in the present coastal area of Lagos with a Calabash containing water in his hand, beads around his neck and a beaded crown on his head. It is also a fact of history that the people of Otun under the leadership of Oore have settled in different places at different times, including Moba near Mushin in Lagos and passing through Ile-Ife before they finally settled at their present location. Some of the places they passed through after Ile-Ife included Akure, Oke Olodun, and Ipole before moving to the present site over 400 years ago. The movement from Ipole (about six kilometers away) to settle at the present site was due to scarcity of water. Water supply was so problematic at Ipole...

Presidential ticket cause of PSP crisis

The presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2019 elections is the main cause of the current crisis tearing the party apart, its embattled National Chairman Senator Ali Modu Sheriff said yesterday. Sheriff, who bared his mind in an interview with African Independent Television (AIT), accused Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and a former Deputy National Chairman of PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, of plotting to hand the party’s ticket to a prominent leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He said: “Wike and Secondus are working to give the party ticket in 2019 to a man in APC, a man that is not even bold enough to leave the APC and join us. He was in the PDP before. He was a founding father of the PDP. “I don’t have to mention him. Secondus himself told me that he and Wike always meet this man to strategise plans on 2019. I told him that it is wrong. If the man is bold enough, let him come and join us now. “They accused me ...

Yoga and celibacy key to living long according to Indian oldest man

Looking remarkably unlined for his claimed 120 years, an Indian monk who says he is the oldest man to have ever lived puts his longevity down to no sex or spices, and daily yoga. Hindu monk Swami Sivananda was born on August 8, 1896, according to his passport. If true, his life would have spanned three centuries, but despite his apparent age he remains strong enough to perform yoga for hours at a time. He is now applying to Guinness World Records to verify his claim. It currently lists Japan’s Jiroemon Kimura, who died in June 2013 aged 116 years and 54 days, as the oldest man to have ever lived. India’s passport authorities confirmed Sivananda’s age from a temple register, the only record many Indians even decades younger have of their date of birth. However it would be extremely difficult to independently verify his age. Sivananda was featured by local media earlier this summer, with the Times of India noting he looked 50 years younger than his apparent age but ...

PRESIDENCY DISSOCIATES ITSELF FROM # ISTANDWITHBUHARI GROUP

PRESIDENCY DISSOCIATES ITSELF FROM # ISTANDWITHBUHARI GROUP The Presidency formally dissociates itself from the #Istandwithbuhari advocacy group and demands that the group should immediately stop claiming any alliance with the Buhari Administration. The Presidency also demands that the persons behind the controversial #Istandwithbuhari group should stop using President Muhammadu Buhari's name and that of his wife, Mrs. Aisha Muhammadu Buhari to promote themselves and their activities. Among other reasons, we have found it necessary to distance the Presidency from the #Istandwithbuhari group because its premature and ostentatious celebration of the present administration's achievements is totally inconsistent with President Buhari's philosophy of service with humility. While the present administration has indeed recorded significant successes in its priority areas of improving security across the nation, ending the Boko Haram insurgency, curbing official corr...

EKITI DSS INVASION

The DSS operatives had reportedly invaded the State House of Assembly complex in Ado Ekiti, whisking away four of the 26 members to its Abuja office. The lawmakers accused the DSS of acting on the orders from above. However, briefing newsmen at the National Assembly complex, the Chairman, Ekiti House Committee on Information, Honorable Gboyega Aribisogan, said the call for the President to direct the release of the detained legislators has become imperative because the DSS would not embark on such action without presidential approval. Group Declares Support For Treason And Fraud Prosecution Of Gov. Fayose

R ecently, Mr. Femi Falana SAN had called on the federal government to investigate the illegal use of armed soldiers and the criminal diversion of N4.8 billion for the Ekiti state governorship election of June 21, 2014 for the 'victory' of Mr. Ayo Fayose, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the election. The call by the respected Senior Advocate of Nigeria was based on the report of a Nigerian army panel which has recommended the trial of the soldiers who were involved in the manipulation of the election; the investigation by the EFCC of a former minister of defence who collected the sum of N4.8 billion for the election; and the corroboration of the allegations of massive electoral fraud by the secretary of the Ekiti state PDP, Dr. Tope K. Aluko. Governor Fayose has characteristically and carelessly accused Mr Falana of inconsistency because he had last year said the election was free and fair. Like Mr Falana, many of also believed at the time ...
