DANGOTE REDUCES CEMENT PRICE

As a result of its economy of scale occasioned by the recent introduction of new production lines in Okpella Edo State and Itori in Ogun State worth nine million metric tonnes, Dangote cement has slashed the price of its cement varieties. In a statement, the firm stated that the price cut from N1800 to N1300 was to ensure the product is affordable to all segment of users. In the same light the company has gone a step further to train block moulders on the right mix to get quality blocks. NIGERIA LABOUR PROTEST NEW ELECTRICITY TARRIF

Nigerian labor unions embarked on a peaceful mass protest against the outrageous hike in the electricity tariff which took effect early this month. The protest which kicked off from the Labour House at the Central Business Area comprised of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) and several civil society groups carrying placards with various inscriptions such as ; "Don't increase electricity Tariff," "Stop estimated billing," "NERC and DISCOS obey court order,"Give us prepaid meters"We need light not darkness," "We cannot pay more for darkness. DSS INTEROGATES ALUKO #EKITIGATE

Former Secretary of the Ekiti State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Secretary, Dr. Temitope Aluko, has been answering questions from the Department of State Services (DSS) concerning his allegations of massive rigging of the 2014 governorship election in the state. The first round of interrogation was conducted in Abuja on Friday with the second round due to follow tomorrow, The Nation gathered yesterday. Aluko, speaking on Channels Television last week, alleged collusion between the PDP, Fayose and security officials in rigging the election. Of note is the allegation that former President Goodluck Jonathan released $37million to Fayose for the prosecution of the election wich Fayose won, defeating the then incumbent Dr. Kayode Fayemi. $2million of the sum was allegedly released for the PDP primaries which Fayose won conveniently and the balance of $35million for the election proper. Five military personnel feared killed as Arepo vandals strike again

Suspected pipeline vandals struck afresh yesterday at Arepo,Ogun State. No fewer than five military personnel were feared killed in the attack,coming about four months after seven officers of the Department of State Security (DSS) were ambushed, killed and allegedly buried in shallow graves by vandals at Ishawo , Ikorodu in Lagos State. The latest attack occurred at Wawa area of Arepo, said to be the new den of the criminals who have recently come under severe pressure from the joint security Anti-Pipeline vandalism operation codenamed AWATSE. Coordinated by the Defence Headquarters, operation AWATSE is made up of personnel from the Navy (NN), Army (NA), Airforce (NAF), Police, DSS and the Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). AFGHAN 11 YEAR OLD HERO KILLED BY TALIBANS

(CNN)— An 11-year-old Afghan boy who had been praised for his bravery in leading security forces in battle against the Taliban was killed by the militants this week, Afghan authorities said. Wasil Ahmad had commanded a police unit for 43 days as it fought to repel a deadly 71-day Taliban siege last year, according to his uncle Mullah Samad, an Afghan Local Police commander in the Khas Uruzgan district of Uruzgan province. Gunmen on motorbikes shot the boy in the head Monday at a market in Tarin Kowt, the provincial capital of Uruzgan province, said Dost Mohammad Nayab, spokesman for the province's governor. Wasil was taken to a local hospital, then transferred to a better- equipped hospital in Kandahar, where he died of his injuries, Nayab said. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the killing on its website Monday.source CNN

DAAR COMMUNICATION APOLOGISES TO BOLA AHMED TINUBU

DAAR Communications, owned by Chief Raymond Dokpesi has tendered an unreserved apology to the national leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Tinubu over a documentary aired on African Independent Television (AIT) titled, “Lion of Bourdillon” DAAR Communications also opted for an out of court settlement in a N150 billion libel suit filed against the company before a Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja. On another hand, Asiwaju Tinubu  has also accepted the apology tendered by DAAR Communications as settlement for the libellous documentary. Tinubu had instituted the N150 billion suit before the court against Daar Communications Plc, owners of AIT, for airing the documentary. He said the money represented aggravated and exemplary damages for the libelous documentary.
