After several months of waiting nigerians can now breathe a sigh of relief President Muhammadu Buhari has signed the 2016 controversial budget into law. The newly appointed Vice Chancellor for the Federal University Lokoja (FUL), Prof. Angela Freeman Miri has formally assumed office. The woman who succeeds Prof. Abdulmumuni Hassan Rafindadi, resumed February 25th, shortly after which the inauguration of the university council took place in Abuja, on the 1st of March, with Prof. Nimi Briggs as FUL’s Chairman of council/Pro-Chancellor. The amazon, formerly of the University of Jos visited the palace of the Maigari of Lokoja on Monday, March 7. Miri was former two-time commissioner in Plateau State. Prof. Briggs, the chairman of council was to later embark on a tour of both the institution’s permanent and mini sites, in Felele and Adankole, when he visited FUL for the first time, while the first council meeting is to begin on Thursday.

PRESIDENTIAL COMMITTEE INDICTS OVER 300 ONSA CONTRACTORS, RECOVERS OVER N7 BILLION, ASKS FOR THE REFUND OF N41 BILLION, RECOMMENDS FURTHER INVESTIGATION OF CONTRACTS VALUED AT OVER N75 BILLION A committee set up to probe contracts awarded by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) from 2011 to 2015 has indicted more than 300 companies and prominent citizens including serving and retired officers of the armed forces. Over N7 Billion has been recovered so far from the indicted companies and individuals. Another N41 Billion is to be refunded by the indicted companies while further investigation by the EFCC has been ordered to determine whether another N75 Billion should be recovered from some of the companies for unexecuted or partially executed contracts. The House of Representatives on Thursday urged the Federal Government to direct Joint Admissions Matriculation Board (JAMB) to suspend the computer based 2016 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination test. The decision of the House was sequel to the adoption the prayers of a motion brought under matters of urgent public importance by a member, Hon. Oghene Egoh (PDP-Lagos). The lawmaker while moving the motion said there was need for JAMB to revert to the paper examination until the board was ready to conduct a hitch-free Computer Based Test (CBT). According to him, over a million candidates who sat for the computer based UTME recorded various degrees of technical hitches. The technical hitches, he said, jeopardised the candidates’ chances of gaining admission into the universities. The DSS operatives had reportedly invaded the State House of Assembly complex in Ado Ekiti, whisking away four of the 26 members to its Abuja office. The lawmakers accused the DSS of acting on the orders from above. However, briefing newsmen at the National Assembly complex, the Chairman, Ekiti House Committee on Information, Honorable Gboyega Aribisogan, said the call for the President to direct the release of the detained legislators has become imperative because the DSS would not embark on such action without presidential approval.
