If there is one thing that saddens or sickens the heart, It is seeing a person with great potentials starts well and then end badly.
This is something that can happen to any one and cuts through all areas of life. For example; in the world of sports, where youngsters such as athletes or footballers who have shown from the onset that they have a bright future, youngsters who had started so well that it seems nothing can ever go wrong. Yet, they end their promising careers because of things such as; a loosed lifestyle or drug abuse. While this is common, In other cases it could be seeing sports men or women getting crippled due to one accident or another and therefore bringing their career to an end, and in other cases due to bad characters or wrong peer group advice/association.
While these may be sad, the saddest of all still remains seeing it happen spiritually. Many of us Christians might have seen or experience such cases; it might have happened to people around us, where many seemingly very vibrant Christians who don't ever miss a day in Church, always early to church, always doing one good thing or another in church, well mannered in nature, and having all the "necessities" as expected of a Christian, yet all of a sudden, he or she gets tripped off and falls by the wayside. I am also a perfect example of such. Growing up back then in the Catholic Church, by 7am I would already be in church for the morning mass with my parents, and seated in the auditorium. Sundays were a day of joy to me, but as soon as I was becoming a teenager I just felt, why should I get there early when the priest won't start preaching until it's past 8am? I would rather stay at home and sleep more. Most of my friends don’t come early , so why should I?
Often times, I keep thinking about all these and more and I wonder how it happened; what reduced the zeal and urge for Christ in us?
• OUR PARENTS:
The mistakes most of us make is that we believe we have our parents to help do the Job's for us; because we have our father and mother praying for us, its like; What else do we need? My mother is a deaconess, my father is an elder (mum and dad are already doing the work of God and praying for us); but this shouldn't be so. When we were much younger, it was necessary that our parents would carry us and sometimes hold our hands and assist us in walking; and as time went by we were left to do all by ourselves. Spiritually, it should be the same thing. If you’re growing up in a Christian home, it's great having parents who walk with God. But what about us?, we should have our own faith in Christ as the Savior. We ought to have our own quiet time with God.
• OVER FAMILIARITY WITH GOD
Because most of us grew up surrounded by the things of God. You might have had the opportunity to have stayed or lived in the church or might have been active in any Junior group and therefore, tend to have this closeness and familiarity which makes one become disrespectful and even crack jokes about God, His Word and the Church. Instead of Reverencing Him in all ramifications.
• YOUTHFUL EXUBERANCE
Most of us face the temptation of experimenting with sins that have been seen as off limits when we were much younger. As we get into our teen years and beyond, peer pressure sets in. Friends might tell you, “Listen, you've been missing out on the fun! So, you've never been drunk? You've never attended any party. You're missing! You have to break out of dad and mum's hold. It's not good, you can only be young once”...... that's true; but that doesn't mean you should do things that won't glorify God. Remember that, if you can only be young once then you can only serve God while young once.
• TAKING THINGS FOR GRANTED
Most of us who had the privilege of being taught about Christ while younger, tend to take things for granted. Most of us don't appreciate the blessing and grace of knowing Christ. Many of our parents have gone through similar experiences while growing up, and this has made them want to help us not to experience such. What most of us tend forget is that only Christ can assure a person of eternal life. In other words, if we were born into pagan or idolatry, what would have been our sure end? Wouldn't it have been disastrous?
FINALLY
Always know that a time will come when we can no longer lean on those who have helped and taught us about faith and Christ. We must be able to stand on our own, develop and maintain our own walk with God, else we will fall.
Otun Ekiti is the Headquarter of Moba Local Government Area in Ekiti State. It is located to the North of Ekiti State. It is a nodal town which shares boundary with Kwara State to the North and Osun State to the West. History Of Otun Ekiti Tradition has it that the Oore emerged from the Okun Moba (Moba Sea) in the present coastal area of Lagos with a Calabash containing water in his hand, beads around his neck and a beaded crown on his head. It is also a fact of history that the people of Otun under the leadership of Oore have settled in different places at different times, including Moba near Mushin in Lagos and passing through Ile-Ife before they finally settled at their present location. Some of the places they passed through after Ile-Ife included Akure, Oke Olodun, and Ipole before moving to the present site over 400 years ago. The movement from Ipole (about six kilometers away) to settle at the present site was due to scarcity of water. Water supply was so problematic at Ipole...
